Colloidal Silica for Fire Glass
Manufacturer: Shandong Zhonglian Chemical Co., Ltd.
1. Product Overview
Colloidal silica for fire glass is a core functional material specially developed for grouted insulating fire glass. It adopts high-purity amorphous nano-silica as the dispersed phase and deionized water as the dispersion medium, forming a stable colloidal dispersion system. Targeting long-standing pain points in the fire glass industry such as alkali efflorescence, poor weather resistance and insufficient fire resistance, Shandong Zhonglian Chemical has developed dedicated colloidal silica products adapted to mainstream production processes through precise particle size control and surface modification technology, covering the full fire resistance rating range from 0.5h to 3.0h.
The product appears as a colorless transparent liquid at room temperature with excellent optical transmittance, and forms high-strength bonding with glass substrates. At high temperatures, it forms a dense three-dimensional silica network structure through dehydration and polycondensation, transforming into a rigid heat-insulating refractory layer that effectively blocks flame penetration and heat conduction. It serves as the core material for a new generation of inorganic fire glass.
2. Core Technical Features
2.1 High-purity Amorphous Composition
The silica purity reaches ≥99.8%, free of heavy metal ions and organic volatiles. It generates no toxic fumes at high temperatures, complying with both green building and fire protection environmental standards. The amorphous structure ensures structural stability over a wide temperature range, with no melting or decomposition above 1000℃.
2.2 Controllable Nano-scale Particle Size
The particle size distribution is concentrated in the customizable range of 60~120nm. Through precise particle size classification technology, a balance between colloidal stability and post-curing density is achieved. Small-particle models are suitable for fine pouring of thin fire glass, while large-particle models improve the thermal shock resistance and structural strength of the cured layer.
2.3 High Transparency Optical Performance
Visible light transmittance is ≥88%. After curing, the refractive index of the gel layer is close to that of the glass substrate, with no haze or yellowing. It solves the industry problems of whitening and low light transmittance in traditional water glass systems, meeting the requirements of building daylighting and architectural design.
2.4 Wide Temperature Range Storage Stability
With unique charge stabilization technology, the pH value is controlled in the alkaline range of 9.0~10.5. The shelf life exceeds 12 months at 5~35℃, without gelation, delamination or precipitation, adapting to long-distance transportation and mass production inventory needs.
3. Fire Protection Mechanism
In the event of a fire, the colloidal silica fire-resistant layer undergoes three phase transitions to achieve fire and heat insulation:
1.Endothermic Water Evaporation: When the temperature rises to 100~200℃, free water in the colloid evaporates gradually, absorbing large amounts of latent heat and slowing the temperature rise rate.
2.Gel Polycondensation and Densification: At 300~600℃, silanol groups undergo dehydration polycondensation. Nanoparticles interconnect to form a continuous three-dimensional network structure, and the volume shrinks uniformly to form a dense heat insulation layer.
3.Ceramic Refractory Barrier: Above 800℃, the gel layer is further sintered and ceramized into a glass-like rigid refractory layer. Thermal conductivity drops below 0.12W/(m·K), effectively blocking thermal radiation and heat conduction while maintaining structural integrity to prevent glass debris splashing.
4. Compatible Production Processes
4.1 Pouring Type Fire Glass Process
Formula preparation: Mix colloidal silica with curing agent and additives in proportion, degas under vacuum for 30~60 minutes
Vacuum pouring: Inject the mixture into the interlayer of two glass sheets, with thickness set at 5~20mm according to fire resistance rating
Gradient curing: Pre-cure at 60℃ for 4 hours, then raise to 80~100℃ for post-curing for 8~12 hours
Quality inspection and cutting: Conduct appearance, light transmittance and fire resistance tests after curing, and cut finished products to specified dimensions
4.2 Laminated Composite Fire Glass Process
Suitable for thin flexible fire glass production. Colloidal silica is blended with thickener into a paste, uniformly coated on the glass surface, pre-cured, laminated with another substrate, and cured at high temperature.

English Version 2: Colloidal Silica for Fire Rated Glazing
Manufacturer: Shandong Zhonglian Chemical Co., Ltd.
1. Product Overview
Curtain wall grade colloidal silica for fire rated glazing is a high-end dedicated material developed for exterior fire-rated glass curtain wall systems. Built on general-purpose products, it enhances weathering stability, structural bonding strength and long-term optical reliability, meeting the stringent requirements of high-rise and super high-rise building curtain walls. The product strictly complies with GB/T 15763.1 Safety Glass for Building Use – Part 1: Fire Resistant Glass, achieves full coverage of Class A insulating fire glass ratings, and adapts to curtain wall engineering requirements including wind pressure resistance, UV resistance and thermal cycling resistance.
Combined with the production and application characteristics of curtain wall fire glass, Shandong Zhonglian Chemical optimizes the particle size distribution and surface modification formula of the colloid, solving common problems of ordinary colloidal silica such as yellowing, delamination and cracking after long-term outdoor use, and providing safe and durable fire protection solutions for modern building curtain walls.
2. Exclusive Curtain Wall Grade Performance
2.1 Excellent Weathering and Aging Resistance
Through surface densification modification technology, UV resistance, water resistance and acid resistance of the cured colloid are greatly improved. After 1000 hours of QUV accelerated aging test, light transmittance loss is ≤2%, with no yellowing, chalking or peeling. It meets the 25+ year service life requirement for outdoor curtain walls, and is suitable for projects in coastal and high-UV radiation areas.
2.2 High-strength Structural Bonding
The bonding strength between the cured gel layer and glass substrate reaches ≥2.5MPa, much higher than general-purpose products. Silanol groups form chemical bonds with the glass surface and match the thermal expansion coefficient of glass. No stress cracking occurs under thermal cycling from -40℃ to 80℃, ensuring structural safety of the curtain wall system under extreme temperature differences.
2.3 Large-size Pouring Adaptability
Optimized for large-panel curtain wall glass production, the colloid features uniform fluidity and curing shrinkage ≤3%. It enables bubble-free, flow-mark-free uniform pouring for glass panels over 2m×3m, significantly improving yield and adapting to industrial prefabrication of unitized curtain walls.
2.4 Dual Excellence in Fire Integrity and Insulation
Beyond meeting fire insulation requirements, it delivers enhanced fire integrity. In standard fire resistance tests, temperature rise on the unexposed surface is uniform without local hot spots. The gel layer does not collapse or delaminate at high temperatures, maintaining glass structural integrity and preventing flame and smoke penetration, in line with the design concept of curtain wall fire separation.
3. Fire Protection Solutions for Curtain Wall Systems
3.1 Unitized Curtain Wall Fire Glass
Adapted to factory prefabrication of unitized curtain walls, the curing speed is adjustable to match assembly line rhythms. Finished products feature high dimensional accuracy and are ready for on-site hoisting, greatly improving installation efficiency.
