Evonik Launches SIPERNAT® 20 Precipitated Silica: High Specific Surface Area Delivers Advanced Anti-Caking Solutions for Food and Feed Industries
Evonik has officially introduced SIPERNAT® 20, a new grade of precipitated silica designed to address pervasive industry challenges including powder caking, moisture pickup and poor flowability in food processing and animal nutrition applications.
As a chemically inert additive with exceptional stability, SIPERNAT® 20 does not interact with base raw material components, ensuring safe integration into a broad spectrum of food and feed powder formulations. Boasting a multi-point specific surface area of at least 160 m²/g, its well-defined three-dimensional porous structure efficiently traps free moisture and volatile compounds within the material matrix, directly reducing agglomeration risk and extending the shelf life of finished powder products.
The product stands out for its strong adsorption capacity, with a DOA absorption value ranging from 215 to 255 ml/100g. This high oil absorption performance enables efficient conversion of liquid ingredients such as flavorings and nutritional fortifiers into free-flowing powders, expanding processing flexibility for manufacturers. SIPERNAT® 20 also features a tightly controlled particle size distribution of 30–80 μm, ensuring rapid, uniform dispersion throughout powder blends and consistent anti-caking and flow-promoting effects.
Additional key specifications include a maximum drying loss of 7% and a neutral pH range of 6.0–7.0 in 5% aqueous suspension, so the additive will not alter the physicochemical properties of host materials or disrupt downstream production processes. All performance parameters are tested in accordance with ISO international standards for reliable, traceable quality. Positioned as a dedicated anti-caking agent and free flow promoter for human food and animal nutrition ingredients, SIPERNAT® 20 supports manufacturers in boosting the storage stability and processing efficiency of their powder portfolios.
